Potato cheese sticks are a delicious snack that combines the creamy texture of mashed potatoes with the gooey goodness of melted cheese. Here’s a simple recipe to make them:
Ingredients:
- 2 large potatoes, peeled and cubed
- 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or mozzarella works well)
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Oil for frying
Instructions:
- Boil Potatoes: Place the cubed potatoes in a pot of salted water and boil until tender, about 15-20 minutes. Drain the potatoes and mash them well in a large mixing bowl.
- Seasoning: Add garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper to the mashed potatoes. Mix well to incorporate the seasoning evenly.
- Form Sticks: Take a small amount of the seasoned mashed potatoes and flatten it in your hand. Place a small amount of shredded cheese in the center and roll the potato mixture around it to form a stick shape. Repeat until all the mixture is used up.
- Coating: In separate shallow bowls, place the flour, beaten egg, and grated Parmesan cheese. Roll each potato stick first in the flour, then dip it in the beaten egg, and finally coat it in the grated Parmesan cheese. Make sure each stick is evenly coated.
- Frying: Heat oil in a deep fryer or a heavy-bottomed pan to 350°F (175°C). Carefully place the coated potato sticks into the hot oil in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes per batch. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
- Serve: Serve the potato cheese sticks hot with your favorite dipping sauce, such as marinara sauce or ranch dressing.
Enjoy your homemade potato cheese sticks!
