Patty Melts with Secret Sauce Recipe
Ingredients
For the Patty Melts:
- Ground beef: 1 lb
- Salt: 1 tsp
- Black pepper: 1/2 tsp
- Butter: 2 tbsp (for cooking onions)
- Onion: 1 large, thinly sliced
- Butter: 2 tbsp (for grilling sandwiches)
- Swiss cheese: 4 slices
- Rye bread: 8 slices
For the Secret Sauce:
- Mayonnaise: 1/2 cup
- Ketchup: 2 tbsp
- Dijon mustard: 1 tbsp
- Pickle relish: 1 tbsp
- Worcestershire sauce: 1 tsp
- Garlic powder: 1/2 tsp
- Onion powder: 1/2 tsp
- Salt: 1/4 tsp
- Black pepper: 1/4 tsp
Instructions
Making the Secret Sauce:
- Mix ingredients: In a small bowl, combine the mayonnaise, ketchup, Dijon mustard, pickle relish, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well blended.
- Chill: Cover and refrigerate the sauce for at least 30 minutes to let the flavors meld.
Preparing the Patty Melts:
- Cook the onions: In a skillet over medium heat, melt 2 tablespoons of butter. Add the sliced onions and cook, stirring occasionally, until they are golden brown and caramelized, about 20 minutes. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
- Shape the patties: Divide the ground beef into four equal portions and shape them into oval patties, slightly larger than the slices of bread. Season both sides with salt and black pepper.
