Stuffed cabbage rolls are a delicious comfort food! Here’s a simple recipe:
Ingredients:
– 1 head of cabbage
– 1 lb ground beef or turkey
– 1 cup cooked rice
– 1 onion, diced
– 2 cloves garlic, minced
– 1 can tomato sauce
– 1 can diced tomatoes
– 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
– Salt and pepper to taste
– 1 teaspoon paprika
– 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
– 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
– 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
– 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley (optional)
Instructions:
1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
2. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Carefully remove the core from the cabbage and place the whole head in the boiling water. Cook for about 5 minutes, then carefully remove the cabbage and let it cool slightly.
3. While the cabbage is cooling, in a large skillet, cook the ground meat over medium heat until browned. Add the diced onion and garlic, and cook until the onion is soft and translucent.
4. Stir in the cooked rice, half of the tomato sauce, Worcestershire sauce, paprika, thyme, oregano, red pepper flakes (if using), salt, and pepper. Let the mixture simmer for a few minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.
5. Carefully separate the cabbage leaves, making sure to keep them as intact as possible. Trim the thick center vein from each leaf to make them easier to roll.
6. Place a spoonful of the meat mixture onto each cabbage leaf and roll it up, tucking in the sides as you go. Place the rolls seam-side down in a baking dish.
7. In a bowl, mix together the remaining tomato sauce and diced tomatoes. Pour the mixture over the cabbage rolls.
8. Cover the baking dish with foil and bake in the preheated oven for about 45 minutes, or until the cabbage rolls are cooked through and tender.
9. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley before serving, if desired. Enjoy your delicious stuffed cabbage rolls!
