Recipe for classic stuffed mushrooms:
Ingredients:
- 20 large white mushrooms, cleaned and stems removed
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional: 1/4 cup finely chopped onions or shallots
- Optional: 1/4 cup chopped cooked bacon or sausage for added flavor
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Clean the mushrooms with a damp cloth or paper towel to remove any dirt. Remove the stems by gently twisting them or using a spoon to scoop them out, creating a cavity for the stuffing.
- Finely chop the mushroom stems. If you’re using onions or shallots, chop them finely as well.
- In a skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped mushroom stems (and onions or shallots if using) and sauté until softened, about 3-5 minutes.
- Add the minced garlic to the skillet and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
- In a bowl, combine the sautéed mushroom mixture with breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, chopped parsley, and salt and pepper. If you’re adding bacon or sausage, include it in this mixture.
- Generously stuff each mushroom cap with the mixture, pressing it down slightly.
- Place the stuffed mushrooms on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or lightly greased.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until the mushrooms are tender and the stuffing is golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and let them cool slightly before serving.
These stuffed mushrooms are a crowd-pleaser and can be easily customized to suit your taste. Enjoy!
