Banana pudding is a classic dessert that many people love. While there are numerous variations, here’s a simple recipe that’s often considered one of the best:
Ingredients:
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 3 cups whole milk
- 4 large egg yolks
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 3 ripe bananas, sliced
- 1 box (12 ounces) vanilla wafers
- Whipped cream or whipped topping (optional)
Instructions:
- In a medium saucepan, whisk together the sugar, flour, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk and egg yolks until well combined.
- Gradually pour the milk mixture into the saucepan with the dry ingredients, whisking constantly until smooth.
- Place the saucepan over medium heat and cook, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens and begins to bubble.
- Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
- Let the pudding cool for a few minutes, then place a layer of vanilla wafers on the bottom of a 9×13 inch dish.
- Arrange a layer of sliced bananas on top of the wafers.
- Pour half of the pudding mixture over the bananas and wafers, spreading it evenly.
- Repeat the layers with another layer of wafers, bananas, and the remaining pudding.
- Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or until the pudding is set.
- Before serving, you can top the pudding with whipped cream or whipped topping if desired.
