Christmas Crack Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
- 1 cup packed light brown sugar
- Saltine crackers (enough to cover your baking sheet)
- 2 cups semisweet or milk chocolate chips
- 1 to 1.5 cups chopped nuts (optional, such as pecans or almonds)
- Sea salt for sprinkling (optional)
Instructions:
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Prepare Baking Sheet: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil, making sure it covers the entire sheet.
- Arrange Crackers: Place the saltine crackers in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet, making sure they cover the entire surface.
- Make Toffee: In a medium saucepan, melt the butter and brown sugar over medium heat. Stir continuously and bring the mixture to a boil. Once it starts boiling, let it boil for 3-4 minutes without stirring. The mixture should thicken slightly.
- Pour Toffee Over Crackers: Pour the hot toffee mixture over the saltine crackers, spreading it evenly with a spatula.
- Bake: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for about 5-7 minutes, or until the toffee becomes bubbly.
- Add Chocolate: Remove the baking sheet from the oven and immediately sprinkle the chocolate chips over the hot toffee. Allow them to sit for a couple of minutes to melt, and then spread the melted chocolate evenly over the toffee with a spatula.
- Optional: Add Nuts and Salt: If you like, sprinkle chopped nuts over the melted chocolate and add a pinch of sea salt for extra flavor.
- Chill: Allow the Christmas Crack to cool and set. You can speed up the process by placing the baking sheet in the refrigerator for a couple of hours.
- Break Into Pieces: Once completely set, break the Christmas Crack into pieces.
Enjoy your delicious Saltine Cracker Toffee! This treat makes for a great homemade holiday gift or a sweet addition to your Christmas dessert table.
