Ingredients:
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 1 pound Italian sausage (sweet or hot), sliced
- 1 pound meatballs (beef, pork, or a mix), formed into small balls
- 1 pound braciole (beef or pork), thinly sliced
- 2 cans (28 ounces each) crushed tomatoes
- 1 can (6 ounces) tomato paste
- 1 cup red wine (optional)
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions:
- In a large pot, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onion and garlic, sauté until softened.
- Add the sliced sausage and cook until browned on all sides. Remove from the pot and set aside.
- In the same pot, add the meatballs and brown them on all sides. Once browned, remove and set aside.
- Brown the sliced braciole in the pot. Once browned, remove and set aside.
- Pour in the crushed tomatoes and tomato paste. Stir well to combine.
- If using, add the red wine to the pot and let it simmer for a few minutes.
- Season the sauce with dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and pepper. Adjust the seasoning to your taste.
- Add back the cooked sausage, meatballs, and braciole to the pot. Stir gently to combine.
- Simmer the sauce on low heat for at least 1-2 hours to allow the flavors to meld. The longer it simmers, the richer the flavors will be.
- While the sauce is simmering, prepare your handmade ricotta gnocchi according to your favorite recipe.
- Serve the sauce over the handmade ricotta gnocchi and enjoy your hearty Italian meal!
